Introduction

"Carpe Diem" - by means of our school motto, which means "seize the day" or "make use of the opportunity", we welcome all parents and learners to our private school.

You have entrusted your child in the care of the school and its teachers - and you should do so confidently and without any doubts. We are delighted to accept you child just the way it is.

We shall soon get to know one another; we shall share your problems and concerns, as well as your joy.

Children have not been brought into the world for us to shape them according to our expectations. Children have been brought into the world in order to live their own life, explore their own direction, find their own goal, and we, we may, for a while, accompany them.

Objectives

We at the Private School Swakopmund are committed to:

  • keeping the number of learners per class as limited as possible;
  • appointing well-qualified teachers, who pursue their career out of love for the child;
  • stimulating and maintaining the curiosity of learners;
  • giving learners the opportunity of sharing the accountability for their learning process;
  • aiming at integral learning - 'with the head, heart and hand';
  • promoting independent reasoning and social learning;
  • in a Christian sense, conveying to the learners the love for nature and the responsibility for an increasingly threatened environment;
  • nurturing the open-mindedness and tolerance of learners with regard to other cultures and beliefs;
  • providing continuity within scholastic education and aiming at an educational standard that guarantees enrolment in internationally accepted educational institutions.

Our School

The P.S.S. is a private school based on the Namibian constitution and is subject to the Inspectorate for Namibian schools . Curricula are in conformity with international and Namibian syllabi.

The cultivation and preservation of the German language gave rise to the idea of founding a private school. Admission to the school is open for all population groups, provided that the learner has the necessary knowledge of the German language to follow the lesson and provided that he passes the entrance examination. The highest level currently offered by the Private School is the classical Grade 12. We are committed to providing learners with an international school-leaving certificate. We have set a class size limit of +/- 18 learners. This enables even intellectually disadvantaged learners to receive individual guidance and attention.

The development of communication media will drastically change our schools in the future. We have accepted the challenge of transmitting the traditional values of our society, simultaneously supporting the development of up-to-date technologies in our school. We want to ensure that our learners receive proper preparation for the challenges that will await them in their future careers.

Disciplinary Rules
1. Dereliction of duty / class register
  • Dereliction of duty is punished up to and including Grade 7.
  • Dereliction of duty includes:

  • After 3 or more derelictions of duty in one week the learner receives a class register entry and is detained. Parents will be informed accordingly.
  • Should the behaviour of the learner not be improved by these measures, the first official letter on the learner's behaviour will be sent to the parents.
  • The second official letter will be accompanied by a final warning. Should this be ignored, the disciplinary committee will organise a proceeding, which might lead to the learner's expulsion from school. The disciplinary committee consists of:
    I the school management
    II the subject teacher or class teacher
    III 2 members of the school board
  • A class register is kept for Grades 1 to 12. Entries into the class register include offences, poor behaviour, etc. Such an entry must be signed by the learner and also implies detention for the learner.
